We (my girlfriend and I) were looking for a new hike this weekend. We found a good site for hiking and decided on
Snoqualmie Falls. As purported in the article, it was a tourist mecca because it's the highest waterfall in Washington state, it's easily accessible by car, and it's only a mile round-trip (the total mileage was about 2 miles from the parking lot according to my Forerunner).
The trail and the surrounding area is owned and managed by
Puget Sound Energy--the site has a diversion dam and two powerhouses--but it almost feels like any other hike you'd find in Western Washington, the exception being the number of visitors, the length of the trail, and the power plant at the bottom of the trail. Otherwise the scenery is beautiful and we were glad we came. To top it off, we stopped at the
Salish Lodge & Spa for lunch, located right next to the top of the falls (you can see in the upper-left corner in the video). It's a bit expensive, but if you can get a window seat it's well worth the visit and the food was excellent.
